Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, successfully completed his 42 mile charity walk for Wales Air Ambulance last weekend, despite acquiring several severe blisters in the process.
The AM took part in the Rotary Across Wales Walk 2012 on Saturday 23June, which took him across much of the constituency of Montgomeryshire. He started his challenge in Glandyfi, Machynlleth just before 4am and finished at the Anchor pub, north of Newtown, at 8.30pm.
Commenting, Mr George said:
“This was a fantastic event which was well organised and managed by Montgomeryshire Rotary Clubs. I would personally like to thank Newtown, Llanidloes and Machynlleth Rotary Clubs and all their supportive volunteers for their help and encouragement on the day.
“I would also like to thank the local St. John’s Ambulance crews who were on standby throughout, what was for some, a very long day.
“While this was a real personal achievement for me, the principle aim of this walk was to raise as much money as I could for the Wales Air Ambulance.
“I raised nearly £600 which made the pain from my blisters all the more easy to bear.
“Wales Air Ambulance is an invaluable asset in providing emergency transport in rural Mid Wales and I hope this money will help them continue their excellent service.”
