As the Welsh Conservative Party today announced their Shadow Cabinet it was revealed that Montgomeryshire Assembly Member Russell George is the Shadow Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development.
Commenting on the new appointments, the Acting Leader of the Assembly Group, Paul Davies AM, said: “This Shadow Cabinet draws upon the immense skill and experience we have within our group.
“As the official opposition in the Assembly, it is very clear that we have a duty to hold this government to account and scrutinise its record of delivery. This Shadow Cabinet will provide the strongest possible voice in making sure that happens.
“Unlike Labour, Welsh Conservatives firmly believe rural affairs should have a voice around the Cabinet table. We do not agree with Labour’s decision to demote this portfolio to a Deputy Ministerial position. The presence of a Shadow Rural Affairs Minister will make sure this area is given the strong voice it needs.
“Where Labour has brushed the Welsh Language into another portfolio, we have given this area proper importance within the Welsh Language and Culture brief.
“Similarly, we recognise the vast importance of infrastructure in Wales and the important part transport has to play in that. Our Shadow Regeneration and Transport Minister will work hard to make sure this area is properly represented and developed.
“This remains an incredibly exciting time for the Welsh Conservatives and I know every Shadow Minister will work tirelessly in getting the best for Wales and holding the Welsh government to account.”
