Russell George joined Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies in opposing AV in the upcoming referendum. The referendum, which will be held on the same day as the Welsh Assembly Election, will decide whether future elections in Britain will be held using the Alternative Vote system. Britain, along with most other countries worldwide, currently uses the First Past the Post system.
Mr George took the opportunity to encourage people to oppose this expensive and unfair system. "The transition from one voting system to another will be an expense that Britain does not need. The First Past the Post system is used all over the world and is what Britain has always used. AV is expensive and complicated, and could mean that your vote matters less than somebody else's.
"I strongly recommend that people vote No to AV, or risk having a voting system which is difficult to understand and could lead to extremist parties such as the BNP gaining more seats than ever in government."
