Glyn Davies MP and Russell George AM were today at Preem, an Indian restaurant in Newtown which has been announced as the 6th best Indian restaurant in the country, and the Best in Wales. The Lyca Tiffin Cup, a competition run by MPs belonging to the Tiffin Club, aims to raise the profile of South Asian cooking and is held annually.
MPs are invited to nominate a restaurant from their constituency which receives a mystery guest who rates the quality of the food and surroundings. Finalists are then invited to the Houses of Parliament for a Grand Final cook off event.
Speaking after the presentation of a certificate, Glyn Davies said: "It was great to see a Montgomeryshire restaurant winning the 'Best in Wales' section of the competition and going on to be declared sixth 'Best in Britain'. We have several very good Indian restaurants in Montgomeryshire, serving what has become Britain's most popular food. Next year I'd like to see even more Indian restaurants from Montgomeryshire getting involved in this competition."
