Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire has warmly welcomed what he calls a fantastic deal, announced today (Tues) settling the future arrangements for managing S4C, the Welsh Language channel. For several months Glyn Davies has been working with other MPs and Ministers to reach a satisfactory solution to what has been a matter of great controversy and concern for many Welsh people. Commenting on the agreement, Glyn Davies said; "For several months there has been proper concern about the future of S4C, our Welsh Language channel. While some others have just protested and buried heads in the sands of unreality, I have worked to try to come up with a solution - working with Ministers to emphasise the importance of long term funding, and operational and editorial independence for S4C". "The new S4C/BBC agreement is a fantastic deal for the future of Welsh Language television, offering certainty of funding up to 2017, a S4C Authority with only the National Trustee for Wales (currently the great Elan Clos Stephans) representing the BBC, and a Management Board with no BBC representation whatsoever. This is a fantastic deal which the Chairs of both the BBC and S4C have warmly welcomed - and I'm not surprised because its a million miles better than anyone expected." "Its time to move on from S4C's troubled past, which on occasions has descended into farce. S4C now has the potential, the funding and a management structure which creates a great platform for success in the future."
