The Annual General Meeting of the Montgomeryshire Conservative Association has been hailed as a great success. Nearly 60 people (some non-members) came to enjoy a friendly meeting followed by some delicious food in Trefeglwys Community Centre on Saturday 18th February 2011.
The meeting saw Simon Baynes elected as the new President of the Association, and he was delighted to accept the post, saying it was a great honour. After paying tribute to his predecessor Lord Gowrie, Simon also welcomed Ian Harrison as the the new Association Chairman.
After the meeting, a delicious shepherd's pie and lovely chicken curry made the choice of what to eat hard-going. More than one went up for seconds to taste the other dish!
Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies enjoyed the event hugely, saying in a short speech afterwards that being here was "like being in my own living room. I just feel comfortable with all of these people who I know so well.
"Not every association has the strength of this one, and it is the teamwork that allowed us to achieve such a wonderful victory here in Montgomeryshire."
Afterwards, Glyn answered some questions ranging from health issues to the government's decision on publicly-owned forests. He then paid tribute to Russell George, saying that he is "an excellent Assembly candidate for Montgomeryshire".
