50 people from Montogmeryshire accompanied Assembly Candidate Russell George today in delivering a 10,361 strong petition to the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff asking for a resolution to Newtown’s traffic problems.
The petition, which has been signed by people from right across Montgomeryshire, has confirmed that this is a problem affecting the whole region. People from as far as Ireland have signed the petition, saying that they now travel a different route to avoid Newtown.
Cllr Russell George's petition asked that a trial roundabout is put in place on the Kerry road junction, and if traffic flow improves, that a permanent roundabout is reinstated and that there must be an early start date for construction of a Newtown Bypass.
Thank you to the 10,361 signed the petition and to the 50 people who filled the 50 seater coach today- the Petitions Committee will now debate the detail of what is being asked and discuss what action should be taken. We need a short term and long term fix to Newtown’s traffic problems which are affecting the region.
